Playful Pearl Necklace (2022)
With the Playful Pearl Necklaces series, Eva has taken inspiration from her home environment, in particular from a novelty children’s toy, “ball-in-the-hole”. This series poses questions about the role of playing in children and the progressive vanishing of playing in adult life. This idea is brought into a jewellery format: a pearl necklace and the act of playing with beads. The unconventional way of playing with the beads in the Playful Pearl Necklace seeks to challenge the idea of seriousness in jewellery.
This work is the final work from the development period funded by the Arts Council England, Developing your Creative Practice grant, which spanned from January to July 2022. During this period, Eva was developing her digital making skills in the field of CNC milling to explore digital and machine assisted sculpting complementing her hand crafting skills.
